“I, Google”

There is a Star Trek episode called “I, Mudd” with a very interesting plot line. It deals with a race of Androids that hatch a plot to take over the  entire human race…Not with weapons or force of any kind, but simply by dedicating themselves to serving mankind & catering to people’s EVERY whim until eventually the human race becomes so completely dependent on them that they are unable to function without them. It sounds crazy right? I mean we humans are way to self aware to let something that nefarious happen to us…Except it IS. All around us every day. Slowly but surely. In imperceptible ways Androids are gradually beginning to sap every aspect of our lives…our brains….skills….our hearts…our humanity… These Androids are very clever. They operate in tiny ways we never notice. They offer us so much comfort….so much ease…that we have become totally comfortable surrendering more and more of our inner worlds and outer actions to their control. They have taken charge of our cognitive skills often to the point of our abandoning the development of these skills altogether. They have taken over our communicative pathways changing & often dictating entire new ways that we interact with our fellow citizens. They have taken over our social lives, offering us ways of connecting with our friends and families & even potential sexual partners that are almost effortless. They have taken over our natural desires for material comforts and transformed our entire civic life into a consumerist paradise where almost everything we could ever want or ask for is but a mouse click away. We never question these Androids because they appear to have only our best interests at heart and because as Americans we have always blindly convinced ourselves that our greatest aspiration is rooted in technological progress. These androids know this. And if we don’t seem to realize  what they are doing & how much we are losing….
These Androids names are APPLE, AMAZON, FACEBOOK & GOOGLE…

Yep….and if we don’t wake up soon…it might be too late…:)
